When I created TAMARA, choosing the right name felt impossible. I wanted something that spoke to the heart of the brand, something with depth and meaning – but also easy to remember... No pressure, right?
In the early days, the only two people who knew about this little “project” of mine were my parents. So naturally, we had some brainstorming sessions (read: me overthinking while they threw out ideas). My mom casually suggested “Tamara” and I shut it down immediately. Nope. Didn’t feel right. Didn’t fit the vision. I had all these random associations with the name that I just couldn’t connect with it.
But then... I let it sit for a bit. And the more I let the idea simmer, the more it started to make sense.
"Tamara” has both Hebrew and Arabic roots – much like me. It is a name that bridges cultures and traditions. In Hebrew, it means “date,” (the fruit, not the romantic kind), which symbolizes sweetness, strength, endurance, vitality, and prosperity – attributes I wanted my brand to embody. In Arabic, the name represents elegance and beauty. Suddenly, the name I had completely rejected was ticking every single box.
And then came the full-circle moment: I remembered a past project of mine (a very niche healthy baking phase during Covid) where I literally used a date as the logo. So maybe “Tamara” was always meant to be the name. It just took me a little while to realize it...
Ah, but it’s “TAMARA” – all caps – just because we’re cool like that. And, you know, to make a statement.
Con amore,
Sara, Founder, TAMARA
